Installation & Migration​

Can I move an existing INI file to a new version of Viesus?​

The INI file is self-contained and upward compatible with newer versions.

To upgrade and include new feature parameters, you just need to load it in the new version of the Viesus Viewer and save it again.

What do I have to consider when installing a new Viesus version?​

Please make sure that you uninstall the old Viesus version before you run the installer for the new version.

Restart your system after the de-/installation process.

Parameterization​

What happens when my viesus.ini file is empty?​

When the viesus.ini file is empty, Viesus uses the standard settings.

What is a standard value for the delay in the hot folder settings?​

We usually go with 60 seconds for the delay in the hot folder settings.

What is the delay in the hot folder settings measured in and how is it applied?​

The delay in the hot folder settings is measured in seconds.

The delay is defined by the time since the last modification of the file.

A file will get processed on the next directory scan when the file is "older" than the delay parameter, assuming that the file can be opened exclusively for reading.

What is the quality setting for JPEG export in Viesus?​

We use a quality level of 95 for saving JPEGs, which is a proven quality level for printing.

The file may therefore be smaller with this setting than with a quality level of 100, because of the file compression that is applied.

Integration​

How can I integrate Viesus into my own server?​

To integrate Viesus into your own server, you have two primary options:

Viesus Folder Enhancer​

The Viesus Folder Enhancer is the standalone solution for Windows servers.

  • Install the Viesus Folder Enhancer software on your server
  • Configure one or multiple hot folders according to your needs
  • Images placed in these hot folders will be automatically enhanced by the software

Viesus CLI​

The Viesus CLI is the flexible solution for Windows and Linux servers.

  • Install the Viesus CLI on your server
  • Incorporate the Viesus image enhancement CLI into your existing workflow, scripting, or automation processes
  • Process images through the Viesus CLI for enhancement as needed

Parameterization​

In both cases, use the Viesus Viewer desktop application to define enhancement parameters and save them to a configuration file.

The parameterization will ensure that your images are enhanced according to your preferences.

If you need to enhance PDFs as well, consider acquiring the Viesus PDF Enhancer, but note that it requires a separate license.

Debugging & Troubleshooting​

My GUID doesn't work, what do I do?​

Make sure that the viesus_64.dll that you are using is the one which you have used for the initial install.

You can determine the version of the library via the CLI.

The version should display something like "VIESUS 10.00.00 IF win 64 bit – Build ...".

Please be aware that the GUID cannot be used as a simple string, but rather as shown in the sample application.

What does the error code -114 stand for?​

The error code -114 states that the files have already been processed and can therefore not be processed again.

Image Processing​

How does Viesus determine the correct skin tone in an image?​

We have done extensive research to find the optimal skin tone for a range of different skin colors based on a diverse data set of 40k+ portrait images.

The application of the skin tone correction in Viesus depends on the deviation of the actual skin tone in the image to the "ideal" skin tone for a specific skin color.

Since Viesus puts a strong focus on natural image enhancement, the automatic correction will only make subtle changes to the skin tone to prevent artificial results.

Is it possible to observe the results of Viesus image processing?​

Viesus is designed to work fully automatic and unmonitored, but you can implement additional output folders in your processing workflow to monitor the enhanced results.

Is the correction automatic or can the customer choose to request this solution or not?​

Viesus itself is a fully automatic solution. It depends on your workflow/process(es) and how you implement VIESUS in it.

Generally, VIESUS enhances bad images more and good images less.

Linux​

Is there a Viesus build for Alpine Linux?​

Unfortunately, we do not offer an Alpine build at the moment.
